Taming the Asian Handicaps

2008-02-11 11:46:33
A lot of people are still unfamiliar with the Asian Handicaps. However it’s worth to have a closer look at them, because they have a lot of advantages. First of all, they are eliminating the triple result typing (1X2) in the most popular among the players discipline, that is football. Thanks to the Handicaps we can bet on a football match with only double result (1 or 2). Secondly, the Asian invention gives you the opportunity to bet on a match’s favourite, who is a dead cert. winner, for an odd which is higher than in case of the traditional bets. And one more, comparing to the last ones, the Handicap’s odds are burdened by the bookmakers with the lower profit margins.

Draw no bet - the Asian 0:0 Handicap
There’s a simple rule, if the match will finish with a draw, then the player’s stake is refunded. Notice! However there are bookmakers, who in case of a draw will deduct 10 percent from the player’s stake (e.g. Interwetten).

Example of a 0:0 Handicap

1 2
Manchester City Liverpool 2,27 1,37

Handicap 0:1, 1:0, defined also as +1 or -1
This Handicap is based on the assumption, that the match’s favourite is commencing the match with one goal lost on his account. So if the match will finish with the result where the favourite will achieve a single-goal victory, then the bookmaker will treat this bet like there was a draw and will refund the stake.

Example of a 1:0 Handicap

1 2
Manchester City Liverpool 1,323,05

In the example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Manchester:

- will win the bet, if the match finishes with a draw, because the Manchester is commencing the match with artificially made one goal supremacy,
- is winning, if the match finishes with the Manchester’s victory,
- will get the stake back, if the Liverpool will win by a single goal, because of a single-goal Handicap in a match with the Manchester, the bookmaker will treat it as a draw.

The player who had bet on the Liverpool:
- will win the bet, if the Liverpool will win by a difference of at least two goals,
- will get the stake back, if the Liverpool wins, but only by a single goal,
- will lose the bet, if the Liverpool will draw or lose.

Handicap 0:2, 2:0
This Handicap is based on the rules like the 0:1, 1:0 Handicap. However in this case the favourite will commence the match with artificially assumed loss of two goals.

Handicap 0:1/2, 1/2:0, defined also as -1/2, +1/2
Simple thing. The favourite is commencing the match with loss of -1/2 goal.

Example of a 1/2:0 Handicap

1 2
Derby County Blackburn handicap 1/2:02,121,75

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Darby:
- wins the bet, if Darby will win or draw
- loses the bet, if Darby will lose

The player who had bet on the Blackburn:
- wins the bet, if Blackburn will win
- loses the bet, if Blackburn will lose or draw

Handicap 0: 1 1/2; 1 1/2: 0, defined also as +1 1/2, - 1 1/2
In this handicap the favourite is commencing the match with fake loss of -1 1/2 goal.

Example of a 1 1/2:0 Handicap

1 2
Fulham
Chelsea handicap
1 1/2:0
1,562,06

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Fulham:

- wins the bet, if Fulham will win, draw or lose by a difference of only one goal
- loses the bet, if Fulham will lose with more than one goal

The player who had bet on the Chelsea:
- wins the bet, if Chelsea will win the match with the difference of at least two goals
- loses the bet, if Chelsea will lose, draw or win with the difference of only one goal

Handicap 0:1/4; 1/4:0, defined also as 0,- 1/2; 0,+1/2
This is one of a few kinds of so called Double Asian Handicaps. Double, because one bet is automatically split in two. The stake is also split in two. In the 0:1/4 handicap one half of the bet is treated as a 0:0 handicap, the second half of the bet is a 0:1/2 handicap.

Example of a 1/4:0 Handicap

1 2
Manchester City
Liverpool handicap 1/4:02,121,75

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Manchester:
- half of his stake will be counted as a 0:0 handicap, the other half will be counted as a +1/2 handicap, so on the assumption, that the Manchester is commencing the match with artificially assumed supremacy of +1/2 goal
- if Manchester will win, then the bet is winning
- if the match finishes with a draw, then half of the stake will be refunded, because this part of the bet will be counted as a 0:0 handicap, that is “draw no bet”. As for the second half it will be treated as a winning one and will be counted with an 2.12 odd. It`s being done like that, because of the artificially made supremacy of +1/2 goal. In this case a draw is actually the Manchester`s victory by a difference of +1/2 goal
- if the Manchester loses, then whole bet is lost

The player who had bet on the Liverpool:
- half of his stake will be counted as a 0:0 handicap, the other half will be counted as a -1/2 handicap, so on the assumption, that the Liverpool is commencing the match with artificially assumed lose of -1/2 goal
- if the Liverpool will win, then the bet is winning
- if the match finishes with a draw, then half of the stake will be refunded, because this part of the bet will be counted as a 0:0 handicap, that is “draw no bet”. As for the second half it will treated as a loss. It`s being done like that, because of the artificially made loss of 1/2 goal. In this case a draw is actually the Liverpool`s loss
- if the Liverpool loses, then the whole bet is lost

Handicap 0:3/4; 3/4:0, defined also as -1/2, -1; +1/2/+1
In this Double Asian Handicap one half of the bet is being treated as a 0:1/2 handicap and the other one as a 0:1 handicap.

Example of a 3/4:0 Handicap

1 2
Derby County
Blackburn handicap 3/4:0
1,85
2,0

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Darby:
- half of the stake will be counted as a +1/2 handicap, the second half will be counted as a +1 handicap
- if Darby will win or draw, then the bet is winning
- if Darby will lose by one goal, then the player is losing a half of his stake, the second half is being refunded to him. It`s being counted like that, because one half of the stake is being counted as a +1/2 handicap so it`s a loss (Blackburn is winning by a difference of 1/2 goal). The second half is being treated as a +1 handicap, then it`s a draw, so a half of the stake is being refunded
- if Darby will lose by a difference of more than one goal, then whole bet is being treated as lost

The player who had bet on the Blackburn:
- half of his stake will be counted as a -1/2 handicap, the second half will be counted as a -1 handicap
- if Blackburn will win by a difference of at least two goals, then the whole bet will be winning
- if Blackburn will win by a difference of one goal, then the player wins half of the bet and gets a refund of a half of the stake. It`s being done like that, because half of the bet is being treated as a -1/2 handicap, where one goal winning means that Blackburn had won by a difference of +1/2 goal. The other half of the bet, will be treated as a -1 handicap, where one goal Blackburn`s victory will be seen as a draw and that`s why half of the stake will be refunded automatically
- if Blackburn will lose or draw, then whole bet will be treated as a loss

Handicap 0: 1 1/4; 1 1/4:0, defined also as -1, - 1 1/2; +1, + 1 1/2

This is another Double Asian Handicap. In this handicap half of the bet is treated as a 0:1 handicap, and the other half as a 0:1 1/2 handicap.

Example of a 0: 1 1/4 Handicap

1 2
Arsenal
Fulham handicap
0: 1 1/4
1,9
2,0

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Arsenal:
- half of the stake will be counted as a -1 handicap, the second half will be counted as a -1 1/2 handicap
- if Arsenal will win by a difference of at least 2 goals, then the whole bet will be winning
- if Arsenal wins by a difference of one goal, then the player will have a half of the stake refunded and at the same time will lose the second half of it. It`s being done like that, because half of the bet will be treated as a -1 handicap, where Arsenal`s one goal victory will be counted as a draw. The second half, that is -1 1/2 handicap, with Arsenal`s one goal victory, in fact will be treated as a +1/2 goal Fulham`s victory
- if Arsenal will draw or lose, then the whole bet is being treated as a loss

The player who had bet on the Fulham:

- half of the stake will be counted as a +1 handicap, the second half will be counted as a +1 1/2 handicap
- if Fulham will draw or lose, then the whole bet is winning
- if Fulham lose by a difference of one goal, then half of the stake is being refunded and the other half is winning. It`s being done like that, because half of the bet will be treated as a +1 handicap, where Fulham`s one goal loss will be counted as a draw. The other half, that is +1 1/2 handicap, with Fulham`s one goal loss, in fact will be treated as a +1/2 Fulham`s victory
- if Fulham will lose by a difference of at least two goals, then the whole bet will be treated as a loss

Handicap 0: 1 3/4; 1 3/4:0, defined also as - 1 1/2, -2; + 1 1/2, +2

This is another Double Asian Handicap. In this handicap half of the bet is treated as a 0:1 1/2 handicap, and the other half as a 0:2 handicap.

Example of a 0: 1 3/4 Handicap

1 2
Arsenal
Fulham handicap
0: 1 3/4
1,9
2,0

In an example given we can deal with the following situations:

The player who had bet on the Arsenal:

- half of the stake will be counted as a -1 1/2 handicap, the second half will be counted as a -2 handicap
- if Arsenal wins by a difference of at least three goals, then the whole bet is winning
- if Arsenal wins by a difference of two goals, then the player will have a half of the stake refunded and at the same time will win the second half of the bet. It`s being done like that, because half of the bet will be treated as a -2 handicap, Arsenal`s 2 goal victory, in fact will be treated as a draw. The second half, that is -1 1/2 handicap, with Arsenal`s two goal victory, in fact will be treated as victory by a difference of +1/2 goal
- if Arsenal will lose, draw or win the match by a difference of one goal, then the whole bet will treated as a loss

The player who had bet on the Fulham:

- half of the stake will be counted as a +1 1/2 handicap, the second half will be counted as a +2 handicap
- if Fulham will win, draw or lose by a difference of one goal, then the whole bet will be winning
- if Fulham will lose by a difference of two goals, then half of the stake will be refunded and the othe half will be treated as a loss. It`s being done like that, because half of the bet will be treated as a +2 handicap, Fulham`s 2 goal victory will be treated as a draw. The second half , that is +1 1/2 handicap, with Fulham`s two goal loss, in fact will be treated as Arsenal`s victory by a difference of +1/2 goal
- if Fulham will lose by a difference of more than three goals, then the whole bet will be treated as a loss
